The rush of glamorous cosmopolitan hotel openings continues apace. Diesel Creative Director Wilbert Das’ new UXUA Casa Hotel on Brazil’s bewitching Bahia Coast has no glittering nightlife on offer, and no rock stars have been spotted here. Instead, Das took an altogether different approach, spending a couple of years working with local artisans and restoring several old fishermen’s houses in the idyllic village of Trancoso. The resulting compound, a mixture of Bahian and Indian influences, with handcrafted furniture and local art and antiques, includes a restaurant, a spa, and what Das describes as an “aventurine quartz” swimming pool said to possess healing qualities. A few laps in that, followed by a few cocktails, should have you feeling no pain.
