CASA HISTORY
An old casa with love in its history. For as long as anyone can remember it was nothing more than a simple shack, but it was eventually bought by Brazilian filmmaker Augusto Sevá, one of Trancoso's first biribandos which is an affectionate title natives gave hippies and travelers relocating here in the 1970s. Augusto and his partner Isa went on to became the proud parents of the first non-native children born in the area. When he first bought this utopian garden full of natural sunlight, Augusto was inspired by a simple dream; create a family and live together in a "garden with a house" as opposed to a "house with a garden". So when renovation of the property began Augusto maintained the old structure in its original form, adding an open veranda with a few covered areas where the lush surrounding greenery could be appreciated in any weather.
DESIGN
We love this house. It's a pure expression of Trancoso’s eccentric history and essence of simplicity, its warm embrace of nature and family.
A recent renovation added a second bedroom, bathroom with bathtub, private pool with outdoor shower and lounge and brought imaginative, one-of-a-kind furnishing and abundant dashes of new textures and colors, with artwork and décor from the exclusive UXUA D.A.S. collection created just steps away at an atelier within UXUA's gardens. Contributions feature works by UXUA Artist in Casa residents such as UK fashion illustrator Joey Yu, as well as works of xilogravura (woodcut printing) by J. Borges.
LOVE FOR DETAILS
Thousands of small details executed with care give UXUA its identity. Furniture, decor, lighting and fixtures are one-of-a-kind, organic creations of designer Wilbert Das, handmade at the hotel by native artisans ranging from fishermen to Pataxó Indians. Antiques and art are sourced locally. International creatives living at UXUA have contributed via our Artist In Casa residency.
