Named after the hidden, secret gardens behind the Historic Quadrado which spread out in all directions from its privileged position, the Quintal (Portuguese for backyard) is an airy yet intimate studio nestled in ancient treetops, its deck invaded by tree branches which form a central highway for a family of sagui monkeys who gather fruits while making their twice-daily trek through UXUA's gardens.
Outdoor deck with deep sofa, countless cushions, dining table and loads of room to enjoy tropical garden views. Local ceramics, antiques, and artisanal creations are UXUA signatures, and here are beautifully composed atop white, burnt-cement floors created with a traditional technique. Spectacular open-air bathroom with double-showers of eucalyptus wood features a privileged view over the secret gardens behind Trancoso’s famed Quadado.
Thousands of small details executed with care give UXUA its identity. Furniture, decor, lighting and fixtures are one-of-a-kind, organic creations of designer Wilbert Das, handmade at the hotel by native artisans ranging from fishermen to Pataxó Indians. Antiques and art are sourced locally. International creatives living at UXUA have contributed via our Artist In Casa residency.
