UXUA SHORT Film - Chef in Casa Luiz Hara

Luiz Hara is an acclaimed Brazilian chef, cookbook authorblogger, and creator of one of the world's most renowned supper clubs hosted from an elegant yet cozy East London townhouse.

His cooking is rooted in his upbringing in a Japanese-Brazilian household in São Paulo, with later influence coming from years spent in Japan and Italy, and culinary training at the famed Le Cordon Bleu institute.

The culinary approach taken by Luiz merges tradition with creativity and exploration - making his spirit a perfect fit with UXUA and its founder, the designer Wilbert Das.

Last March UXUA hosted Luiz as its first Chef in Casa, a creative collaboration inspired by the longstanding Artist in Casa residency in which international talents reside at UXUA while producing works inspired by local nature, people, and traditions.

Each day of Luiz's stay he immersed himself in the local Trancoso community, making friends with other chefs, fishermen, farmers, restaurant owners and street vendors - and gaining from each an understanding of the pride and cultural identity which connects people here through Bahian cuisine.

To share his experience and the joy of cooking and eating Trancoso-style, Luiz brought inspiration back home and created an UXUA Taste of Trancoso menu to be served at his supper club 3-nights only, May 18 thru 20.

A limited number of seats are available at 65 pounds per person with 100% of proceeds going to benefit the Associação dos Pescadores, which works to sustain Trancoso's traditional fishing industry.
